Familiar EP

by Sneer

Sneer’s first solo release on Frijsfo Beats has been far too long coming considering his significant part in inspiring and contributing to the label since long before it began. For those that don’t know, Sneer is the other half of production duo Innasekt; their “hardcore dubstep cut” ‘Static’ opened Frijsfo’s first vinyl compilation volume in 2008. Since then a steady stream of top-quality beats has flowed from the now-Berlin-based artist, however the majority of these remain unreleased. This is definitely no reflection of the quality of the tracks, and like ‘Familiar’ and ‘Bad Blood’, they would be sure to induce some bittersweet nostalgia in many long-standing members of the dubstep community, due to the subtlety and expert minimalism in Sneer’s production that is now seldom heard in new dubstep records. A 2step remix from Point B closes the EP in finest 2010 style. (Released October 2010)

IDJ Magazine review: “In what must be a great month for epic builds in dubstep, ‘Familiar’ soars in a beatless fashion before kicking into a tense rhythm. Monolithic horns and haunted pads loom large in the mix, and there’s plenty of space for the elements to breathe. Point B snaps things up garagewise for the remix, but still keeps it on a deep tip. ‘Bad Blood’ brings more of the sinister, cinematic weight that makes ‘Familiar’ so great.” (Oli Warwick)
